Birdcage

Barry "Epoch" Topping's Birdcage Original Soundtrack is a soundtrack album in the genre of video game music, released in 2026 on coloured vinyl by Black Screen Records. Composed for the debut game BIRDCAGE from POLYGON BIRD Games, this LP captures the essence of a fast-paced vertical scrolling shoot 'em up that fuses explosive 90s arcade action with contemporary gameplay and narrative depth. Topping, renowned for his work on Paradise Killer and his project The Needs with its funky city pop vibes, deliberately shifts away from his signature style here to delve into a fresh sonic territory he has long cherished, earning praise for modernizing retro aesthetics through its incomparable score. The album stands out for translating the game's thematic question—what is the value of a bullet when you wield a sword?—into auditory form, blending high-energy intensity with evocative atmospheres that enhance BIRDCAGE's celebrated retro-modern fusion. Players and listeners alike highlight the soundtrack's role in elevating the experience, as Topping's award-winning Scottish artistry crafts a dynamic soundscape perfectly suited to the game's arcade roots and innovative storytelling. Available as a pre-order vinyl pressing, it offers a tangible collectible for fans of electronic and chiptune-infused compositions.
