Norbert Schneider - Neuaufnahme (CD)

Neuaufnahme is a blues- and soul-inflected Austropop album by Austrian singer, guitarist and songwriter Norbert Schneider, conceived as a heartfelt homage to Georg Danzer. Schneider interprets Danzer’s songs in his own earthy Viennese dialect style, combining tight band arrangements with a warm, analogue sound that balances groove, melancholy and understated humour. The album stays close to the emotional core of Danzer’s writing while reworking the material with contemporary rhythm-and-blues and blues sensibilities, giving the songs a fresh, live-in-the-studio feel. It was released as a CD in 2016. Across its generous tracklist, Neuaufnahme features both well-known and lesser-known Danzer pieces, turning them into modern Austropop-blues tunes. Among the standout songs are Jö schau, Lass mi amoi no d’Sunn aufeh’ segn and Geh in Oasch, where Schneider’s expressive vocals and guitar work bring out both the bite and tenderness in Danzer’s lyrics. The combination of blues grooves, soulful phrasing and Viennese vernacular makes Neuaufnahme a distinctive tribute album that simultaneously honours a national songwriting hero and underlines Schneider’s own position as one of Austria’s most compelling blues and Austropop artists.
