OF GENESIS

Commentary on Genesis, written by Cornelius a Lapide.A comprehensive commentary on the first book of the Pentateuch, by the renowned Jesuit exegete Cornelius a Lapide. It covers the fifty chapters of Genesis, expounded upon in a deeply profound and extensive theological work of 776 pages.Cornelius a Lapide (1567–1637) was a priest of the Society of Jesus, originally from the Netherlands. A professor of Sacred Scripture and Hebrew, he taught first at Leuven and then, for many years, at the Roman College. He devoted his life to commenting on almost the entirety of the sacred books, and for centuries his work was the essential reference for preachers, confessors and teachers throughout Christendom. His method systematically brings together the four senses of Scripture — literal, allegorical, moral and anagogical — supported by the constant testimony of the Holy Fathers, the scholastic doctors and sacred scholarship. This edition is intended for the Catholic reader who wishes to approach Scripture with reverence for the inspired text, and with docility towards the Magisterium and Tradition.
