Four Tet - Ringer LP (CD)

Ringer is a compact, four-track electronic mini-album by Four Tet, built around hypnotic repetition, subtle shifts and a meditative, club-informed pulse. Released in 2008, it finds Kieran Hebden leaning toward techno and cerebral dance music, favoring long-form grooves and spacious arrangements over the cut-up, folktronica textures of his earlier work. The production emphasizes evolving rhythmic patterns and understated melodic motifs, creating a sense of forward motion that is both immersive and restrained. The album’s title track Ringer sets the tone with a ten-minute arc of shimmer and pulse, while Ribbons and Swimmer explore more abstract, slowly unfolding atmospheres that balance warmth with an almost mechanical precision. Wing Body Wing closes the record with its most overtly dance-oriented rhythm, tying the release together as a focused exploration of Four Tet’s club-ready side. Overall, Ringer plays like a single, fluid statement, highlighting Hebden’s ability to stretch minimal ingredients into rich, absorbing electronic narratives.
