A BLOKE FROM STOKE

I feel fortunate and somewhat privileged to have reached retirement age and I'm quite sure that many people, at this stage in life, start to wonder where all the years have disappeared to. Some time ago, I came across three old photographs of my grandparents and great-grandparents and sadly realised that I had little insight into their characters and lives. I wished that I had asked more questions about them and the lives they had lived, but it was far too late to do that. Recently, sharing details of my life with one of our grandchildren, particularly about my time growing up during the 1950s and 60s, I saw a flicker of interest and intrigue, but, as a typical teenager, text messages started to distract her. The incident inspired me to write down a few details of my life for my grandchildren to read in the future. In 2021, I joined an on-line site on which people shared their memories of growing up, particularly in the 1960s and 70s, and I started to include a few of my own. I was amazed and humbled by the comments I received along with requests for more stores of my ordinary life growing up in the 1950s and beyond.
